报告人简介:

Professor Dietl obtained his B.S degree in physics from University of Warsaw in 1973 and his Ph.D. in physics from Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences in1977. In 1990 he becomes a Professor at Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences. He is now a Head and a Professor at the International Centre for Interfacing Magnetism and Superconductivity with Topological Matter - MagTop at the Institute of Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. He holds also a part-time Principal Investigator and Professor at the Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University in Sendai.

His current research interests are focused on the development of material systems and device concepts for nanospintronics of topological insulators, ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic semiconductors, and of hybrid metal/semiconductor nanostructures. He has over 400 publications in the area of materials science, including 11 papers in Reviews of Modern Physics, Nature, Science and their series. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, UK, the American Physical Society, and the Japanese Society of Applied Physics as well as an elected member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea. He won and Maria Sklodowska-Curie Award, Polish Academy of Sciences in 1997; and Agilent Technologies Europhysics Prize in 2005.

报告摘要:

After a short introduction to MagTop, as an example of the fascinating new physics in topological materials, I will discuss point-contact spectroscopy of several topological compounds. The experimental data reveal a transition to a low temperature phase that is characterized by zero-energy modes superimposed on an energy gap showing a Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer-type of criticality. However, no global superconductivity is detected in these systems. An experimental1 and theoretical2 search for the origin of this striking behavior in diamagnetic, paramagnetic, and ferromagnetic topological crystalline insulators (Pb,Sn,Mn)Te will be presented.
